I am so glad most of our class was not in harms way during the fires. We did have one classmate who was effected. The Waxenfelter family did loose their house. If you would like to help the high school has been collecting clothes in the B hall just east of the media center. See you Monday! (We will take our Spelling Test from last week and finish our fables in the morning then we will start with our animal unit.)

Parents, During this last month, our class has had to say good-bye to two classmates. This means that we now have enough of the Math Practice workbooks for everyone. I would like to go back to using these in April for our homework but I want to make sure everyone still has them. Please let me know whether your child still has their math practice workbook at home. Thank you! The following students have reached their Principal’s Reading Challenge Goals: *Levi Anderson* *Daezi Hernandez* *Tyler Casey* *Carin Archer* *Rorie Jones* *Hayley Bable* *Ben Harvey* *Aubrey DeHass* *Sara Jackson* *Andrew Beller* *Taylor Long* *Teagan Ray* *Marissa Lowder *Bridget Caywood *Natalie Waxenfelter* *Nicole Rodriguez* We ALL MADE IT!
Thank you for your kind donations for our “Romance basket”. I told my husband I know what I want for Valentines. I would love the “Romance basket” we are auctioning. You had some great ideas! We have a DVD - Made of Honor, a $25 gift certificate to T.G.I.Fridays, candles galore, awesome smelling bubble baths, and chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, just to mention a portion of the items. Someone found some really cute love lottery tickets. There were these neat little soap shavings that look like roses. I really want to try the peach sparkling cider and the donor even gave us some red goblets to make it more festive. Our basket is awesome! If you have a 4th - 6th grader you can already buy your tickets and I suggest you do that. The lower grades will get the option to buy in Thursday folders IF ALL THE SEATING IS NOT FILLED UP! We rarely get the chance to buy tickets. If our grade level is not able to purchase tickets I am going to ask that you have an opportunity to bid on the baskets because if the others are like ours they are going to be great! I will let you know! Monday we will be back in our room. Due to the unusual circumstances the due date for the science homework will be extended to Friday, Feb. 6th. Please check the Monday folder Feb. 2nd to find the homeworksheets needed. If you cannot find an assignment that says February Science Homework about light and shadows e-mail me at dbaack@cnpschools.org and I will staple it to their agenda on Tuesday. Since we know we are missing at least three days of school this week, plan on keeping this week’s spelling list for next week. We will just move all the spelling lists back one week so that we don’t short change any concepts. My main objectives for this week were for the children to learn contractions, to become proficient at paragraph writing, and to do some review and preparation for our unit on money. These are to important to rush so enjoy your snow days. Encourage your child to observe, describe, and enjoy the wonderful winter weather we are having and hopefully I will see you all soon. Our unit this week it winter and we sure got a some weather to go with our unit. If you are home and checking my blog please focus on helping your child with thier spelling words. My main objectives for this week are to have all the children understanding and able to effectively use contractions. We are also working on the writing process. We will still do our prewriting, rough draft, editing, and final draft exercises. Our paragraph we will be workin on is called “The Sled” so it is fitting with the weather. In math we are reviewing skip counting. We are preparing to work with money and over the break some of my students have gotten rusty on their 5’s and 10’s. They need to be able to use skip counting to count objects correctly to work with money. Since we will have a short week due to the weather, we will not take a comprehension test on our story. My main focus will be the spelling, writing, and math review. We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on January 22nd. We are in need of small edible items for our math projects on that day. Please let me know is you would be willing to send chocolate chips, m&ms, goldfish or other items. We will need at least 200 of whatever you are willing to provide. Thank you!
